The Weekly Story Reading for Children from June 17 - July 29, 2009 was a great success. We plan on having it again next summer.
It was the first day of the children's summer reading program at the Union Mills Learning Center and the turnout was not bad, considering the rain. After setting up in the gazebo, it started to rain, so I decided to move into the auditorium before anyone arrived. We had 13 children, ages 2 to 10 years old, with school age children from Pinnacle, Spindale, and Mt. Vernon-Ruth Elementary schools. Each child received at least two free books and bookmarks, and several activities books were also given out. We read poetry and storybooks.

I put a call in to Fire Chief Dean Conner and asked to have one of the Union Mills Volunteer Fire Department trucks come down next week when we'll be reading stories featuring fire fighters.
If any of you want to send entertainers (storytellers, musicians, magicians, animal acts) my way to round out the programs in the future, the children and I will surely appreciate it.
