Music at the Mills Bluegrass & Arts Festival

We've been planning this one for a while! The musicians we have scheduled to perform will set the stage on fire and leave the crowd wanting more. The Union Mills Learning Center is proud to announce that the headlining act this year will be performed by the local husband and wife duo, Darin & Brooke Aldridge! The Cherryville couple will perform multiple sets at the festival as well as conduct some bluegrass music workshops. What could be more exciting than spending the day listening to some of the best bluegrass/folk musicians around? The answer to that is, doing the same thing the night before! This year, the event will go on for two days! It was just too hard to squeeze all of the local and talented musicians in on Saturday, so we've added a line-up for Friday evening. How's that sound? Oh... and as if Darin & Brooke wasn't enough bang for your buck, we also have several multi-award winning bluegrass bands in the lineup, many of which have landed high on the national bluegrass charts. In addition, the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass band is scheduled to take the stage and show off their blend of bluegrass, old-time, and country music tunes. Throughout the festival, ticket holders will be able to shop with vendors, observe the live cultural demonstrations, attend workshops, and best of all, enjoy some of the finest barbeque this side of the Appalachian Mountains. For more updates and information, like us on facebook. Tickets for the event are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. Children 12 and under get in free. All early ticket holders will receive a free festival poster.

Bring your instruments- Workshops & Jam Tents-

Possibly the best part of a bluegrass festival is hearing the sound of five string instruments from every corner of the festival grounds- pickers gathered tight under a tent and around campfires, taking turns playing and singing old bluegrass tunes. Music at the Mills encourages pickers to bring their instruments and have a good time. Along with the jam tents we will have set up, we're also offering some workshops that you'll want to be sure to get in on! Here's a schedule:

  • Mandolin Workshop with Jim Walker @ the Pickin' Shack 12-1PM
  • Banjo Workshop with Trey Hodge @ the Pickin' Shack- 2-3PM
  • EzSTRING demo with Travis Tucker @ the Pickin' Shack- 3-4PM
  • Band & Vocal Workshop with Darin & Brooke Aldridge @ the Pickin' Shack- 4-5PM
