We would like to find someone who has a picture of the old school building that was down below the Community House. We called it the 'Free School”. Several of us are still here that went to that school and would love to find a picture. The only one that I know of is not a very good copy and surely there is someone out there who has a good one. Maybe you can find one for us.

Mr. Columbus Lionel Radford 80, of Union Mills died on Saturday May 9, 2009 at the Hospice House in Forest City. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late John William and Lola Yelton Radford. He attended Cool Springs High School and played baseball from 1949-1950 with the original Forest City Owls. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and was retired from Textiles.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Baynard Radford of Union Mills, Two daughters Dawn Radford Jones of Fredericksburg MD, and Lynn Radford Bryant of Shiloh. One sister Modene Carswell 0f Kempner TX. Five Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 PM at Crowe’s Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 PM at Crowe’s Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Koone and Rev. Barry Gouge officiating. Burial will be in Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Judy Lovelace Crawford fell, at home in the hall, and broke her leg. As bad as that is, Judy has a son that requires constant care.

Jane Davis is leaving us this week to move to Knoxville, Tennessee to live near her family. She has made a great contribution to our community. Jane will be greatly missed.

John T. Mills, 74, of Old Castle Lane, died August 8, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Thompson’s Mortuary, Inc. of Forest City. He is the brother of Ruby Mills of Union Mills

Ray Everett Goins died Tuesday, May 20th. On Friday, friends will be received at McMahan's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton between 1 - 2 PM. The funeral will be at 2PM, officiated by Reverend Donald Hollifield. Following this is the internment at Oak Springs Baptist Church.

Barbara Forney's mother, Mrs. Geraldine Evans of Gastonia, passed away on May 16th. The services are on Wednesday May 21 at Center Baptist Church 3301 South New Hope Rd Gastonia NC Viewing will be from 1pm till 2pm and funeral services will start at 2 pm. Costner's Funeral Home,
